The Indiana Association of United Ways (IaUW) has been supporting its members’ technology and software needs since 1991. As the year 2000 approached, a dozen United Ways committed to an 18-month search for new software and technology. They concluded that while powerful software was available to meet United Way’s processing needs the cost of the software itself, the technology it required, and the amount of staff training needed were beyond the means of most smaller and mid-sized United Ways. At the same time, the growing reporting requirements and the increasingly complex regulatory environment facing United Ways made recruiting, training, and retaining qualified staff more time-consuming and expensive. In response to those challenges, in 2002, IaUW made a grant to four members, making it possible for them to pilot a program to share both technology and staff resources. The Nonprofit Processing and Accounting Services (NP&AS), an operating division of IaUW, grew out of that pilot and now delivers a range of processing, accounting, and technology services to United Ways large and small. Backed by a nonprofit association of United Ways, NP&AS is an organization you can rely on and trust.
